The Best Food Ideas for Your Outdoor Garden Party

Posted by Emily Zettle on

If you’re planning on hosting a garden party to close out the summer season, you’ll want to make sure you have the right type of snacks and appetizers for your guests!

So, what should you put on the menu? That depends on the event itself—whether you’re planning a casual get-together or formal party—and the number of guests attending.

If you’re not sure where to start, we’ve got you covered. Here are some appetizers, meal options, and sweets perfect for backyard garden parties.

Bite-Sized Apps

If you’re eating outside, finger foods are best. Bite-sized apps are easy to pick up and pop in the mouth, and they’re great for guests to munch on as they wait for everyone to arrive.

Think cocktail party appetizers like sausage bites, cauliflower poppers, and ‘pigs in a blanket.’ Make sure to consider guests with dietary restrictions and offer some vegan choices, as well.

Fruit and Cheese Platter

A nicely arranged cheese platter with a variety of selections can impress even the pickiest eaters. The key is the selection of cheeses and the presentation.

Cheese boards don’t have to be super elaborate, although they can be! You can also add a selection of cured meats and seasonal fruits.

Salads

If you plan on having a sit-down party, why not serve a fresh, seasonal salad?

This shrimp scampi salad makes the perfect light dish for a garden party. Using crisp, baby spinach, fresh shrimp, and a squeeze of lemon to finish it all off, this salad just tastes like summer.

Herb Dip

If you need to whip up something simple and aren’t willing to put in a lot of effort, dips are the perfect solution. You can put together a delicious herb dip using fresh scallions, parsley, and dill.

Serve with a variety of fresh veggies such as cucumbers, carrots, and tomatoes, or some crackers. This recipe is so easy that you can make it the day of the party.

Lemonade From Scratch

Few things embody summer more than fresh-squeezed lemonade on a hot day. You can even mix it up and create strawberry lemonade, mint limeade, or Orange Julius.

You only need three ingredients:
  • Roughly 6-8 medium-sized lemons
  • White sugar (1¾ cup)
  • Water (8 cups)

You’ll want to get around 1½ cups of lemon juice, but you can also add orange juice and lime juice. We recommend using a lemon squeezer to make the process easier.

Using a saucepan, you’ll want to create a simple syrup with the sugar and one cup of water. Then, mix the syrup, juice, and the rest of the water together in a pitcher.

You can add more water or sugar to achieve the perfect flavor.

Treats and Sweets

No list of garden party ideas would be complete without dessert! When eating outside, the best treats and sweets are those that are easy to pick up.

Can we just say that some of our Wonderland-themed cookies fit right in at a summer garden party?
